Well..............
thought i would put a season review on, thats if anyone looks at it anymore due to a lackluster year in the website stakes! I 'd like to put it down to doing a bit more at work this year but i'm not suere i can! HA!
Anyway........for those that still log in to see if anything happens here we go!
We have only been together 2 years and in the 1st year in the prem, we did better than we ever expected, comin high in the league, wiinning the Compere and reaching the semis of the Gledhill and final of the divisional.
Hopes were high for this season and expectations even higher after those KPI's (i hope you know what they mean! if not get out your A level business studies text books!). We worked hard to try and pursuade people to come and join the revolution, but it proved difficult. Major signing was Conn Methven, but attendence has been hampered by Saturday commitments. apart from that we didnt get too many.
So we went in to the season with largely the same squad. AFter not long though, the season started to become a chore as many saturday players were declaring themselves unavailable and gettin 11 lads was strained.
This is the ugly side of Sunday football. Shame for the lads who turn up week in week out, and dont play saturdays. But its getting more of a problem around the prem sides. So we took it on the chin and ploughed through the fixtures picking up points and losing points to poor sides (same thing cost us the year before).
Performances never really peaked, and each game was a bit hit and miss. Great one week, crap the next! Even games, one half good the other not! But, still we picked up the points. And one of the good things this year is that everyone was beating everyone else. Poulton though, have been excellent. and it shows that consistency gives you a chance in the prem. They have a good strong squad, without any superstars, well, a couple! dont need to name them. All of them competent lads who are willing to throw there bodys on the line to get the win. the DIV SEMI showed that...and some poor finishing from quills! Even if Quills win on sunday it has still been interesting for the rest of us this year watch the chellenge! good luck to both
anyway back to us!
A midseason blip where we lost a couple of games quite heavily hit us hard, and others even harder. Losing our keeper was a blow, in respect that we were short of one. But i would like to think that i got our season back on track by keeping goal and reassuring the defence that they could play a bit.
The best performance and result was without doubt the quills win. This was due to the fact that they had every player available, we played better football than them and we competed all over the park. A stark contrast to the performance in our last game!It proves that on the day, mentally and quality wise we can be good enough. But the consistency theory kicks in, and points show.... we are miles away!
Worst performance.... Lancs Cup. never seen so many goals go in the net in 15 minutes. could have been a cricket score!
To be honest we werent as bad as we thought, we had just set high targets of the standards we wanted and it felt we could do better. But considering the lads we have n the squad, no offence but they are sunday players and thats all. This shows great character and team spirit to pull out the results and performnances we do to get 4th in the league.
I must say thanks to Will who has sorted out lots of crap off the field all season, and to his Dad, Billy who continues to support us financially.
Hopefully we will retain the players we have got now for next season, and add to them also. I will be looking to tie up all the young lads from College to get them toughened up and gain experience. I will also drunkenley try and sign lads on up town, like you do! If there are any lads who fancy a change and think they could do a job to help the quest for Blackpool Sunday Supremacy then get in touch!
Otherwise...............
well done to the lads this year, and men - Mark Hucks - Legend!
presentation night TBC
Cheers for your efforts!
